Disability Insurance Coverage Types
Most companies offer disability insurance as part of their compensation package. But their disability insurance varies depending on the industry you are in. If the work requires its employees to be in a dangerous situation mot of the time, disability coverage that the company offers is also higher.
There are two types of disability insurance policies that the company offers:
- Short term Disability Policy
- Long Term Disability Policy
Short Term Disability Policy is offered by companies for employees who are not in danger zone most of the time. If you’re working as clerk in an office, this will usually be your insurance policy. This type of insurance policy will ensure that you get the financial support within two weeks. However, the time period in receiving money will be short. Usually, you’ll receive financial support only up to two years. We will discuss more about alternative options you will need to consider if you are getting Short Term Disability Insurance from your company.
Long Term Disability Policy on the other hand financially supports you for the rest of your life. Since we’re talking a huge amount of money to be received, the financial support will only start to roll in after a few months. This type of disability insurance policy is often offered to companies that require their employees to be in dangerous places. Firefighters, cops and seamen are usually the type of jobs that receive this type of compensation.
