Protecting Yourself from Auto Insurance Fraud
Auto insurance scams could happen if you are not careful in your driving and in who you deal with. There are people who think of nothing else but on how to earn money illegally. This is unfortunate but it does happen and if you are not careful, you could be one of the victims. This is very dangerous since it will cost you and even your love one’s lives.
.
Scam through Fake Insurance Agents
There are fake insurance agents who will advertise themselves as legitimate auto insurance agents. They will identify themselves as someone from a known insurance company and the insurance agent will guarantee you that you will have a lower rate compared to your present insurance premium no matter what your records are. You have to pay them upfront as “processing fee” though or just a partial payment which should be paid in full when the paper works arrive.
Their trick in lowering your insurance premium is to call the insurance company pretending to be you and lying about your records and associations so that you will have a lower insurance premium. You will have auto insurance but that cannot be used when an emergency comes because of false information.
First time drivers and older people are usually the ones who are scammed through this scheme. Remember that no auto insurance agent will ask the money upfront for processing your auto insurance. It would even be better to call the insurance company personally. By calling their toll free number, you can be assured that you are talking to a company representative.

Scam through Driving Scenarios
There are also con artists who earn through fake car accidents and that would involve you if you are not careful with it. You are innocently driving in the road when all of a sudden, BAM! You just rear-ended someone. This is a carefully plotted scam that could involve other cars which will try to trap you and get away from the scene as soon as the accident happens.
The driver may even fake an injury just to get more money from your auto insurance. If you are a professional, such as doctor or a lawyer, you can be a likely target of these scam artists.
They could even extend the damage and even claim that the damage came from the original accident. Since no one will back-up your story, you are the one who will be at fault. Although your insurance company will pay for the damages, your premium will definitely be higher.
There are also scam artists who will seem to be helpful but will eventually extract a lot of money from you. If something happens to your car, they will help you go to nearest car repair shop which is also their partner in crime. You will be charged with an exorbitant fee which you be forced to pay.
Be aware of these types of scams. They are everywhere and they could strike without you knowing it. Being smart about their actions will protect you from these fraudulent acts.
